DAVAO CITY – Outgoing President Rodrigo Duterte wished her daughter Sara ‘good luck’ after she took her oath on Sunday as the 15th Vice President of the Philippines.
This was revealed by the VP Sara herself in a press conference on Monday, when asked what she and her father talked about during the inauguration at San Pedro Street in Davao City on Sunday, June 19.
“Sinabihan ko sya ‘salamat, pa,’ and he said, ‘good luck’ (I told him, ‘thanks, pa,’ and he said, ‘good luck),” she said.
Duterte added that she and her father don’t talk about work and politics a lot when they meet.
“We don't discuss work and we don't discuss politics. Pag nagkikita kami usually ang pinag-uusapan namin mga chismis sa family members, mga chismis sa paligid, ganyan yung very normal yung relationship namin ni PRRD, hindi sya professional or business-like (When we see each other, what we usually talk about are gossips about the family members and gossips around us. That’s my normal relationship with PRRD, not professional or business-like),” she said.
As she took her oath before Supreme Court Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando, Duterte was joined on stage by her mother Elizabeth Zimmerman and President Duterte.
The vice president-elect’s members of the immediate family were present during the event, including her husband Atty. Manases Carpio and their children Mikhaila María, nicknamed ‘Sharky’, and two sons, Mateo Lucas, nicknamed ‘Stingray,’ and Marko Digong, nicknamed ‘Stonefish.’
Among the prominent personalities who graced the event included President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his wife Atty. Liza Araneta, and their son Sandro, and former President and now Pampanga 2nd District representative Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
The inauguration last Sunday was attended by around 20,000 people, according to the Davao City Police Office.
Duterte also bade farewell to the employees of the City Hall of Davao on Monday.
Duterte revealed that she is set to leave for Manila on Saturday to meet with Education Secretary Leonor Briones and Cebu next week for the 1Cebu oath taking of winning members.
She added that she will return to Davao before flying again to Manila on June 29 to hold meetings with officials from Japan and China before the inauguration of Marcos Jr.
Duterte previously said she preferred her inauguration to be held ahead so that she could attend Marcos Jr.’s inauguration on June 30.
