Officials of the Municipality of Angono, Rizal laid flower wreaths in front of Dr. Jose Rizal's statue situated at the town plaza in a ceremony on Sunday, June 19, celebrating the national hero's 161st birthday anniversary.
As residents offered flowers to Rizal, a simultaneous clean-up drive was also conducted by both residents and local government employees to pay tribute to the fallen hero.
They scoured the waterways and sidewalks in the municipality carrying broomstick and sacks to clear the roads and other areas of garbage, as well as collect recyclable materials.
Members of the town's women's group also participated in the clean-up activities.
Meanwhile, Vice Mayor Gerardo ‘Gerry’ Calderon, the acting mayor of Angono, offered flowers at the Rizal Monument at Luneta in Manila in his capacity as the Supreme Commander of the Knights of Rizal (KOR).
It has been the tradition of the KOR to offer flowers in Luneta during Rizal’s birth and death anniversary on June 19 and December 30 ,respectively.
Calderon was joined by KOR Deputy Supreme Commander Sir Raymundo Del Rosario, the elders, the regional, area and chapter commanders of the KOR in the rites.
