China fended off Canada, 25-16, 18-25, 25-12, 25-18, Friday for its fifth victory in the Volleyball Nations League Women’s Leg at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Li Yingying spearheaded with 20 points on 17 attacks and three aces, while Gong Xiangyu contributed 15 points including 15 hits as the Chinese crew remained unbeaten in two games in Week 2 of the tournament.
The victory improved China to 5-1 for 16 points.
The Chinese cruised to a 6-0 lead and dictated the pace from then on despite resistance from the Canadian side.
The Canadians saved three match points at the expense of China’s erratic plays before the Chinese sealed the win.
Wang Yuanyuan also delivered for China with 12 points on seven kills and four blocks, even as skipper Yuan Xinyue and Wang Yunlu chipped in a combined 15 points.
China was unstoppable on all fronts as it hammered down 50 kills, 10 blocks and nine aces.
Kiera Van Ryk scored 14 points while Hilary Howe poured in all her 11 points on attacks for Canada, which slipped to 3-4 mark for nine points.
