ILOILO CITY -- Aside from the transportation woes, residential and business consumers in Iloilo City and three other towns have also to deal with water interruption.
Consumers of Metro Pacific Iloilo Water (MPIW), the joint venture between state-owned Metro Iloilo Water District (MIWD) and Metro Pacific Water (MPC), have been experiencing water service interruption since afternoon of Monday, June 13.
This is after FLO Water Resources Inc., one of MPIW’s bulk water suppliers, abruptly cut its services.
The water interruption was supposed to have happened last May 16 when the 10-year contract with FLO Water expired.
It was averted with the intervention of Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor Jr. and Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas.
Supposedly, there was a six-month interim agreement that FLO Water should continue delivering the bulk water supply to MPIW. However, FLO Water refused to sign the memorandum of understanding (MOU).
The bulk water supply company owned by Ilonggo media magnate Rogelio Florete has been delivering 20,000 cubic meters per day to MIWD.
The remaining 10,000 cubic meter MIWD requirement is being supplied by Prime Water Infrastructure Corp.
With the water shortage, the supply of water in key areas of Iloilo City as well as the towns of Leganes, Pavia, and Sta. Barbara will be made available on a rotational basis.
MPIW has urged consumers to store water in bulk.
