P182.2-M access road to Lianga beaches seen to boost tourism, economy in Caraga region
BUTUAN CITY – An increase in tourists’ arrivals could trigger economic activities in the Caraga region with the construction of an access road leading to the fast-rising Lianga town in the Caraga region.

The construction and improvement of this access road at a cost of more than P182.2 million is expected to lure more tourists, local and foreign, to visit the beautiful and amazing white sand beaches in Lianga town in the Pacific Ocean-facing province of Surigao del Sur in Northeastern Mindanao.
Local officials, visitors and tourists lauded President Duterte’s legacy in improving the tourism infrastructures in the province.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was also commended for starting the construction of a bridge and road traversing NRJ-Sitio Cansoan-Ganayon, which will make travel easier and faster to the town’s tourist attraction.
“This is really a big boost to the improving economy of this town, particularly tourism and other countryside businesses” stressed DPWH 13 Regional Director Engr. Pol M. Delos Santos in an interview with The Manila Bulletin on Tuesday.
The regional office of the DPWH 13 is closely monitoring and supervising the ground works (construction) so that visitors, especially tourists, will no longer have to walk the one-kilometer pathway as vehicles will soon be able to gain access towards the beach resort areas.
Once completed, people can enjoy the white sand beaches of Lianga especially with the resumption of leisure and travel for domestic tourism.
The project involves the upgrading and paving of the 1.10-kilometer road, with 60-lineal meter bridge and provision of drainage and slope protection.
Better roads are seen to increase tourist arrivals in the municipality that can provide employment and income to its people.
“Local businesses and other potentials that spur the economy are surely the plus factor of economic development and progress in this part of Mindanao,” stressed further Director Delos Santos.
The road project is a welcome addition to the infrastructure development in Lianga since the local government of Surigao del Sur envisions the province to become the tourism hub in Northeastern Mindanao due to its numerous tourist destinations, and the Regional Development Council (RDC) is keen in making this vision a reality because it is integral to the long-term developmental goal of the region.
