P13.6-M worth of ‘shabu’ seized from nabbed drug trader in Negros city

BACOLOD CITY -- About two kilos of suspected shabu worth P13.6 million were seized from an alleged drug dealer in a buy-bust operation at Sitio Tul-ang, Barangay Rizal, San Carlos City, Negros Occidental Tuesday, June 14.

Lt. Ruby Aurita, spokesperson of San Carlos City Police Station, identified the subject as Rex Baron, 49, of Barangay Rizal.

Aurita said that Baron is an alleged caretaker or right hand of the city’s top drug personality, his boss, who is still at large.

Aurita said the police operatives were surprised when they allegedly transacted with Baron at one of the safe houses of his boss.

Police thought at first that he was just an alleged drug user, Aurita said, adding that Baron’s name was not even included on their list of individuals under monitoring.

Aurita said the recovered illegal drugs were sealed in a Chinese tea bag packaging, which were believed to be sourced out outside the province.

With the said huge volume of illegal drugs, Aurita said that Baron can be considered a newly-identified high value individual.

Aurita said that police continue to monitor Baron’s boss, who they believed is still in the province.

Aurita said the P10.2 million drug haul from a couple in Barangay Guadalupe in the said city in January this year could be linked to Baron’s boss.

Earlier, two buy-bust operations here were linked to San Carlos City, after the arrested alleged drug pushers pointed the said city as the alleged source of the drug recoveries.

The Negros Occidental police has yet to confirm such allegation earlier. For Aurita, it might just be a ‘diversionary tactic’ of the drug suspects to lead the police to a different focused area.

Aurita said there’s nothing to worry about the drug situation in the city, since their monitoring is ongoing.

Baron will be charged for selling and illegal possession of dangerous drugs.
