Illegal cockfighting in Baguio City raided, nine ‘sabungeros’ arrested


BAGUIO CITY -- Nine 'sabungeros' were arrested after police caught them in the act of betting on illegal cockfighting on June 12 at Camp 7, Baguio City.

The nine gamblers arrested by the Police Station 8 of the Baguio City Police Office were Roland Pajimola Castillo, Bert Binay-an Akiapat, Joseph Christopher Buenaventura Abuan, Allan Palen Guia, Geraldo Espinilla Bentican, Fernando Andea Amparado, Richard Francia Comising, Alan Maimpis Canda, and Minardo Cados Vizcaya.

All are residents of Baguio City.

A concerned citizen informed the police station about the illegal gambling, also known as ‘tupada,’in Camp 7.

Raiders found two live fighting cocks, a dead fighting cock, black box containing gaff (fighting blade), nine pieces of gaff (fighting blade), a green fighting cock box, genuine P500 and P1,000 peso bills.

The arrested gamblers and the confiscated pieces of evidence were taken to the police station. The gamblers are facing charges in violation of Presidential Decree 1602 (Illegal Cockfight).
