PNP to hunt down driver in viral Mandaluyong hit-and-run

The Philippine National Police (PNP) will hunt down the driver of the sports utility vehicle (SUV) who escaped after hitting a security guard who was directing traffic in Mandaluyong City nearly two weeks ago.

Roderick Alba, PNP spokesperson, said they were awaiting the release of the arrest warrant which will be issued by the court after the Mandaluyong City Police filed charges against the owner of the white Toyota RAV4 (plate number NCO 3781) after it was involved in a hit-and-run incident last June 5

The owner of the SUV was identified by the Mandaluyong City Police as Jose Antonio San Vicente. Meanwhile, the victim was identified as Christian Floralde.

“We assure that as long as the warrant of arrest is released, we will do everything in our power to find him,” Alba told the Manila Bulletin on Sunday, June 12.

“According to the Chief of Police of Mandaluyong, there is no information as to the whereabouts of the driver. Everybody is waiting ,” he added.

Mandaluyong City Police chief, Police Col. Gauvin Unos said they filed cases for frustrated murder and abandonment of one’s own victim against San Vicente. The raps were filed before the Mandaluyong City Prosecutor’s Office last June 6.

“We are waiting for updates from the Prosecutor’s Office. No information yet of the whereabouts of the respondent,” Unos said in a separate phone interview.

Last Monday, the cases have already been raffled by the prosecutor’s office, according to Alba.

He said the “ball is now with the fiscal” when asked on the development of the case.

After the case was raffled, the prosecutor’s office will hold a preliminary investigation to determine whether there is a probable cause to issue an arrest warrant.

Alba said the PNP has coordinated with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to summon the owner of the SUV, but the latter also failed to respond.
