PBA 3x3: Cavitex advances to KO round

Cavitex secured a spot in the quarterfinals after claiming top spot in Pool B with twin victories Saturday, June 11 in the fourth leg of the PBA 3x3 third conference at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.

Chester Saldua, Bong Galanza, Prince Rivero and Dominic Fajardo defeated third leg runner-up Purefoods, 22-17, before prevailing over San Miguel Beer, 21-13, to sweep pool play.

The Braves hope to carry their unbeaten run into the knockout stage where they’ll seek to finally win their first-ever leg title in the PBA’s halfcourt competition.

Two weeks ago, Cavitex nearly pulled it off but lost to Meralco in the Leg 2 final that went into overtime at Robinsons Place in Las Pinas City.

Second conference champion Pioneer Pro Tibay and Platinum Karaoke also won twice to close in on advancing to the quarters.

Pioneer’s Robin Rono, Christian Rivera, Gian Abrigo and Reeve Ugsang beat Master Sardines, 20-18, and Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, 22-13, to lead Pool A.

Platinum’s Ael Banal, Chris de Chavez, Hyram Bagatsing and Yutien Andrada downed Terrafirma, 21-16, and Zamboanga Valientes, 22-10, to likewise hold first place in Pool C.

First and third leg winners TNT, composed of Almond Vosotros, Samboy de Leon, Lervin Flores and Ping Exciminiano, lost to Ginebra, 21-15, but recovered to take down Master, 22-12, in Pool A.

Meralco’s Tonino Gonzaga, Joseph Sedurifa, Alfred Batino and Dexter Maiquez denied NorthPort a sweep of Pool D after a 21-13 win.

Four more games in pool play are scheduled for Sunday before heading to the knockout stage where the champion will get the top purse of P100,000 and 100 tour points.
