Security guard in Mandaluyong hit-and-run discharged from hospital; to pursue charges vs. SUV driver
The security guard victim of a hit-and-run by a white sports utility vehicle (SUV) in Mandaluyong City on Sunday, June 5, has been discharged from the hospital after being in the intensive care unit (ICU) for four days and vowed to push charges against the SUV driver.
In a video uploaded by his security agency, 31-year-old Christian Joseph Floralde said that he is now feeling much better after treatment and expressed gratitude to those who supported and prayed for him during his ordeal. He particularly thanked Miko Angelo Ramos who uploaded the dashcam video on his Facebook account.
"Nais ko pong magpasalamat dun mismo sa taong may-ari nung dashcam na nakakuha ng buong pangyayare sa aksidente. Sa lahat lahat ng nagpaabot ng tulong para sa akin, sa lahat ng nagsuporta sa akin, sa lahat ng nagdasal sa akin, lubos po akong nagpapasalamat sa inyo (I would like to express my gratitude to the owner of the dashcam who caught and recorded the entire incident. I would also like to say thank you to everyone who extended their support and prayers for me)," Floralde said.
“Itutuloy ko po 'yung kaso para makamit ko po 'yung hustisya na nararapat po sa akin (I will continue to file charges so that justice will be served)," Floralde said.
“Sa ngayon, masama pa rin ang loob ko sa ginawa niya sa akin. Tinakbuhan niya ako, hindi man lang siya tumigil bagkus iniwan ako. Pero may Diyos tayo na marunong magpatawad at ang Diyos na ho ang bahala sa kanya (I still feel bad about what the driver did to me. He left me on the street, he did not even stop and instead just left me for dead. But there is a God who knows how to forgive, I'll just let him deal with the driver)," he added.
Meanwhile, Mandaluyong City Police chief Col. Gauvin Mel Unos said that they are now just waiting for the warrant of arrest to be issued by the court for them to be able to apprehend the registered owner of the SUV identified as Jose San Vicente.
San Vicente was earlier charged by the Mandaluyong City Police with frustrated murder and abandonment of one’s victim.
"Wala pa po sa ngayon so yun ang inaantay natin (warrant of arrest). Once it is issued, it will immediately be implemented and sisikapin po natin ilocate ang respondent dito (As of now, we are still waiting for it. Once it is issued, it will immediately be implemented and we will do everything we can to locate the respondent)," Unos said.
"Regarding dun sa owner na ating sinampahan ng kaso, up to now wala pa pong nagpaparamdam, wala pong mga feelers na lumalapit sa atin kung ano ang katayuan naman po ng suspect na ito (Regarding the owner of the vehicle, he is still not coordinating with us nor is he sending any feelers as to what is his current situation)," he added.
On Wednesday, June 8, three subdivision security guards where San Vicente lives were charged with obstruction of justice after they barred the police from entering the subdivision to investigate the incident.
“Nasampahan na po ng kaso mga security guards kaninang umaga ng obstruction of justice. Tatlo po. Kasama dun ang security officer (A case of obstruction of justice was filed against the security guards this morning. There are three respondents, including the security officer),” Unos said.
“Kung may ganun tayo na mga activities o police follow-up, ibig sabihin it is to serve justice to the victim. So, kung tayo eh pinagbawal po, ‘yun po ang sinasabi nating obstruction of justice that is because justice has not been served (If we are conducting such activities or police follow-up operations, it means we are doing it to serve justice to the victim. So, if we are barred from doing it, then that’s obstruction of justice because justice has not been served),” he said in a separate interview.
