PH remains free of monkeypox—DOH

No case of monkeypox has been detected in the county -so far, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

"We like to clarify to everybody, there is still no confirmed monkeypox case here in the country," said Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire in a press briefing on Friday, June 10.

Vergeire said that there were six "probable" monkeypox cases but all tested negative.

"Currently, nakapag padala na tayo ng anim na samples (we have sent six samples and we classified them as probable cases," she said.

"Dumating na rin ang mga resulta nitong mga pinadala natin na test na ito at ito lahat ay nagbigay ng negatibo na result (The results of these tests already came out and they all yielded negative)," she added.

Vergeire assured that the government has been closely monitoring the developments on monkeypox.

"We started our surveillance long before, nung nag-umpisa tayo magkaroon ng monkeypox in the other countries. So, nag start na tayo ng surveillance natin (when other countries started having monkeypox cases. So, we already started our surveillance)," she said.
