No less than United States (US) Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman has clarified President-elect Bongbong Marcos's diplomatic immunity, which would allow the Filipino leader to travel stateside.

“This is not something that needs to be discussed. The fact is that when you’re head of state, you have immunity in all circumstances and are welcome to the United States in your official role,” Sherman said, referring to Marcos.

Before this, Sherman was asked whether or not Marcos would be allowed to enter the US despite the contempt order against him.

It's the same order that prevented the former senator from traveling to the US for years.

Sherman was in Manila recently to meet with Marcos. The two sides agreed to deepen the two nation's long-standing alliance and discussed the importance of partnering together to strengthen both sides’ economies, including public-private partnerships, clean energy and digital economy.

Speaking of Marcos, he and the rest of national candidates who won in the May 9 polls beat the deadline for the submission of their Statements of Contributions and Expenditures or SOCE to the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

Marcos submitted his SOCE on June 7 while Vice President Sara Duterte submitted hers on June 8.

The senators-elect from the polls have also submitted their SOCE, the Comelec said.
