Pride is here! And if you are looking for colorful ways to celebrate it, below are some events queer folks and allies shouldn’t miss this June.
#PrideforthePlanet (June 1 to 30)
WWF Philippines launches month-long event #PrideforthePlanet to celebrate the #LGBTQIA+ community's perseverance in creating an inclusive world. “They have continuously worked on the importance of social development and environmental preservation,” the non-profit organization says. “#PrideforthePlanet is a sparkling testament to this as this virtual, self-paced walk/run/ride/move will raise awareness of our conservation efforts this June.”
PeliKULAYa: International LGBTQIA+ Film Festival (June 10 to 26)
LGBTQIA+-centric films take the spotlight in the Film Development Council of the Philippines’ (FDCP) PeliKULAYa. With the theme “Pantay-pantay, iba’t ibang kulay!”, the film fest this year is going beyond the country’s borders with film screenings, a short film competition, panel discussions, talkbacks, and other special events happening on FDCP Channel, and at Cinematheque Centres (Manila, Iloilo, Negros, Davao, and Nabunturan), Cinema '76 Film Society, and The Metropolitan Theater.
‘Pride and Independence’ (June 10)
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is opening its doors on June 10 to commemorate Pride Month 2022 and the 124th Philippine Independence Day with a special film screening. With the help of its Film, Broadcast, and New Media Division, the CCP presents “Pride and Independence” featuring Eduardo Roy’s “F#*@bois,” “My Mamily” by Cha Roque, and “Blue Is Not My Favorite Color” by Vahn Leinard Pascual, all will be screened this Friday, 2 p.m., at the CCP Tanghalang Manuel Conde. 2022 Metro Manila Pride March and Festival (June 25)
This year’s Pride March is heading to Pasay City with the theme, “Atin Ang Kulay.” The event starts at 10 a.m. on June 25 with an art exhibit and street fair. By 4 p.m., the Pride March begins, leading to an evening full of musical performances.
Rainbow Ball (June 11)
Step into the world of ball culture as Houe of Mizrahi brings its Rainbow Ball at Ayala Circuit Malls on June 11. See them bring the house down as they perform in different categories—from face, runway, and lip-sync to vogue fem, school boy, and fem queen realness.
National Museum of the Philippines’ Pride Month (June 13 to 22)
The National Museum of the Philippines has prepared numerous activities in celebration of Pride Month. From June 13 to 17, a film showing of Elwood Perez’s “Esoterika: Maynila” will take place at the Auditorium of NM of Fine Arts. A meaningful conversation about SOGIESC and the Protection in Philippine Law is happening on June 20 with its virtual discussion “Bahaghari.” Ending its celebration is a special guided tour for LGBTQIA+ members at NM for Fine Arts, Anthropology, and Natural History. Be sure to put on your best Pride OOTD as, by the end of the tour, NM will award a Best Pride Month Outfit 2022 to select guests.
Alab for Love (June 25)
Non-profit organization Pride PH, together with Quezon City Government, is having a Pride Expo, Pride March, and Pride Night all in one on June 25 at QC Memorial Circle.
Lumalaban, Lumiliwanag, Lumiliyab (June 1 to 30)
Making June more colorful and meaningful is UP Babaylan with its activities, from an art charity and virtual rally to a film showing and online queer campaign, happening for the whole month.
Pride and Power (June 18)
Serving Filipino drag excellence is Drag Playhouse as the most sickening Pinoy drag artists head to Tipple & Slaw, Pop Up Katipunan on June 18.
