“Let the Filipino-Chinese friendship be passed on from generation to generation and I am very grateful to the city of Baguio for its continued support to the Filipino-Chinese community’s programs for the development of the city,” said Zhou during the inauguration of the new Filipino-Chinese Friendship Garden view deck and event place at the Botanical Garden here.
He said China is also very grateful to Baguio for continuing to support his country's programs for the Philippines and asked for continued cooperation and good relations for each other.
Zhou, Mayor Benjamin Magalong here and other city officials, and the Filipino-Chinese community led the celebration of the 21st Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day at the Botanical Garden which coincided with the inauguration of the view deck donated by Zhou as an added attraction in the over 2,000-square meter garden adopted by the Filipino-Chinese community to help tourism in this city.
According to Zhou, the friendship garden and its extension for tourism, such as the new view deck overlooking the vast Botanical Garden, is a testament to the friendship further strengthened over the six years under the administration of President Duterte.
"This park is full of cultural opportunities, it is the best that is under careful management. A new landmark that is open to be visited by many people," Zhou said.
He said the deep relationship between the two countries has resulted in tangible benefits that are seen even during the pandemic. “They stand on each other by thick and thin constantly.”
Peter Ng, chairman, executive committee of the Baguio Filipino-Chinese community, said that their group is striving to continue beautifying the friendship garden which was one of the promises in the development and tourism attractions and promotion of the Summer Capital.
He said that with the friendship that began with the China-Philippines trade relationship, efforts will continue to be made to deepen the long-established relationship.
Magalong thanked the Filipino-Chinese community who first responded during the pandemic. "We sincerely thank you and you send help almost every day."
"The Filipino-Chinese gave so much when the pandemic hit us. They were the first to respond to us for our countrymen," Magalong said.
