LTO issues show cause order vs owner of car in viral hit-and-run incident in Mandaluyong
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) issued on Monday, June 6, a show cause order against the registered owner of a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) that allegedly hit and ran over a security guard who was manning the traffic flow near a popular mall in Mandaluyong City on Sunday, June 5.
This developed as an official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) disclosed that the owner of the vehicle has already sent surrender feeler to the Mandaluyong City Police.
Both the LTO and the PNP did not name the owner of the vehicle The LTO, however, said the show cause order was already sent to the address of the registered owner of the vehicle-- a white Toyota RAV 4 with license plate NCO 3781.
In the order, the LTO directed the registered owner of the vehicle to appear before the LTO office at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7.
Police Maj. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, PNP director for Operations, said the lawyer of the owner of the vehicle has already coordinated with the police.
"It''s just a feeler. Maybe they are contemplating on what's best for both sides since the owner was already identified as well as the residence. It is likely in the soonest possible time, they will appear in the police station," said De Leon.
De Leon said appropriate criminal charges are now being readied.
The incident was captured in the dashcam of a vehicle and went viral when it was uploaded on social media.
It showed the traffic enforcer was attempting to stop the SUV but he was hit by the vehicle. But instead of helping the traffic enforcer, the driver appeared to have deliberately run over the security guard.
Police Col. Gauvin Mel Unos, director of the Mandaluyong City Police, identified the victim as Christian Floralde.
Floralde was then assigned to man the traffic flow at the corner of Julia Vargas Avenue and Saint Francis Street in Mandaluyong City.
The owner of the vehicle was traced through the assistance of some of the witnesses.
