Barangay Ayala Alabang in Muntinlupa, which is composed mainly of the posh Ayala Alabang Village, has recorded 16 new Covid-19 cases in one day.
Data from the Muntinlupa City Health Office (CHO) showed that on June 2, Ayala Alabang posted 16 new cases from zero new cases on June 1 and 2.
Dr. Juancho Bunyi, CHO chief, explained that “the sudden slight increase in active cases were late reports from Covid Kaya (DOH) forwards to the City Health Office on a weekly basis.”
He said most of the positive cases are foreign travelers who tested positive for Covid-19 after arrival in the Philippines and majority are residents of Ayala Alabang.
Muntinlupa tallied 22 new Covid-19 cases on June 2 from zero new cases on June 1. The new cases increase the city’s total active cases to 20 from five on June 1. The other new cases recorded on June 2 are from Barangay Alabang (two), Cupang (three) and Sucat (one).
To date, Muntinlupa has 40,053 confirmed Covid-19 cases, 39,418 recoveries, and 615 deaths since the pandemic started in 2020.
The Department of Health (DOH) had previously announced the local transmission of the highly contagious Omicron BA.2.12.1 sub-variant.
Last May 21, the DOH announced the detection of the Omicron BA.4 sub-variant in the country through a Filipino who returned from the Middle East on May 4.
