There remains no indication of a community transmission of the Omicron subvariants BA.2.12.1 and BA.4 in the country as of this time, the Department of Health (DOH) said.
At present, the DOH has confirmed a total of 22 cases BA.2.12.1 and one case of BA.4 in the Philippines. The DOH only declared local transmission of BA.2.12.1 so far.
"Community transmission is declared when linkages among local cases detected cannot be established," the DOH said in a statement on Thursday, June 2.
"More confirmed cases with no linkages are needed in order to declare community transmission of the aforementioned variants," it added.
Despite this, Filipinos were urged to not let their guards down.
"In light of potential variants entering the country, the general public is strongly advised to please get vaccinated and boosted as soon as possible in light of waning immunity and possibly immune escaping characteristics of variants," the DOH said.
"The public is further advised to continue following the health protocols: wear your best-fitting mask, isolate when sick, and ensure good airflow," it added.
