DepEd to launch first-ever long-term plan for PH education

Recognizing the importance of looking at the future of education in the country and establishing a more holistic and comprehensive approach to planning, the Department of Education (DepEd) will launch its Basic Education Development Plan (BEDP) 2030.

To be officially launched on Friday, June 3, the BEDP 2030 is DepEd’s first long-term plan for basic education covering all formal education from Kindergarten (K), Elementary, Junior High School (JHS), to Senior High School (SHS), as well as non-formal education through the Alternative Learning System (ALS).

In a public briefing early this week, Education Secretary Leonor Briones said that for the first time, DepEd developed a medium-term plan for education. “Usually, ang planning natin ay one year, two years, election-time plan (Usually, our planning is a one year, two years, election-time plan),” she said.

“Pero ang iniisip natin na up to the year 2030 ay mayroon na tayong proposed plan na under the direction naman of the outgoing President Duterte, iyong kaniyang mga urgent programs, and projects na gusto nating ipagpatuloy (But we thought of a proposed plan up to the year 2030 under the direction of the outgoing President Duterte because we want to continue his urgent programs and projects),” she added.

DepEd said that the BEDP 2030 shall provide a “strategic road map geared towards improving the delivery and quality of basic education.”

This, DepEd is added, can be done by “addressing the immediate impacts of the pandemic on learning and participation, close the remaining access gaps, confront the issue on education quality, and anticipate the future of education and introduce innovations in fostering resiliency and embedding the rights of children and the youth in education.”

DepEd will officially launch BEDP 2030 through a hybrid format as part of its implementation.

The launching, to be attended by DepEd officials and other partners, will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Ortigas, will also be livestreamed through the DepEd Philippines Official Facebook Page, and will be crossposted to DepEd Regional pages.
