The strong faith and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary by Bulakenyos led by Governor Daniel R. Fernando was manifested during the "Bulaklakan 2022” rites held at the Nicanor Abelardo Auditorium, City of Malolos, Bulacan on Monday, May 30.
As part of the “Bulaklakan 2022” spirit, Fernando placed the crown on the head of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the middle of the "Pagpuputong ng Koronang Bulaklak sa Mahal na Birhen” (Crowning of flowers on the Blessed Virgin Mary).
The "Bulaklakan" also featured folk dances known as the "Dance of Floral Garlands."
The Bulaklakan arose from the various flowers that grow in the province of Bulacan.
In other places, Bulaklakan celebrates the cultural heritage and national artistic pride with a dance called "Sakuting" which is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and performed widely in the month of May originally by male dancers.
"Sakuting" portrays the Philippine fighting art as a ritual dance that originated from Abra province. (Freddie C. Velez)
