SC holds signing of Roll of Attorneys in Cebu City for Visayas' new lawyers

The Supreme Court (SC) started in Cebu City today, May 30, the signing of the Roll of Attorneys for the new lawyers in the Visayas who passed the 2020-2021 online and regionalized bar examinations.
The SC’s public information office (PIO) said the signing was conducted by the Office of the Bar Confidant (OBC) at the Cebu Provincial Capitol Social Hall to accommodate a large number of new lawyers who turned out for the first day of the signing.
For Tuesday, May 31, the signing of the roll will still be held at the Cebu Provincial Capitol. The signing was originally set at the Social Hall of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) building.
But the PIO said that starting on June 1 until June 3, the signing of the Roll of Attorneys will be held at the original venue at the IBP building.
Senior Associate Justice Marvic Mario Victor F. Leonen, chairperson of the 2020-2021 bar examinations committee, is expected to visit Cebu City for the roll signing.
The PIO said that during today’s signing, Court of Appeals (CA) Cebu Acting Executive Justice Pamela Ann Abella Maxino and CA Cebu Justices Bautista G. Corpin, Jr. and Ronald S. Tolentino dropped by at the signing venue.
A total of 8,241 out of 11,402 examinees, or 72.28 percent, passed the 2020-2021 first ever online and regionalized bar examinations held last February 4 and 6 in various testing centers nationwide.
Those who passed the examinations took their oaths as new lawyers last May 2. Only those who took their oaths are allowed to sign the Roll of Attorneys – the complete list of lawyers who are allowed to practice their profession in the country.
In the National Capital Region and in Luzon, the first schedule of the signing was held last May 4 to 24 at the SC offices in Manila. There will be another signing schedule from June 6 to June 17, also at the SC offices.
The new lawyers in Mindanao had their signing of the roll last May 26 to May 28 in Cagayan de Oro City.
Due to the success of the online bar examinations, the SC had decided to conduct the succeeding examinations online and regionalized.
