The Quezon City government on Monday, May 30, started the vaccination of kids against vaccine-preventable diseases as part of the Department of Health’s (DOH) “Chikiting Bakunation Days” campaign.
Mayor Joy Belmonte and DOH-National Capital Region director Dr. Gloria Balboa led the ceremonial vaccination of minors, zero to 23 months old, at the Quezon City Hall.
The campaign, which will be held until June 10, aims to inoculate children who are not yet immunized or have missed their vaccinations against vaccine-preventable diseases such as polio, measles, mumps, rubella, diptheria, and hepatitis B.
According to the local government, city health workers will be visiting barangays in the city to vaccinate the children. Parents can also bring their children to the nearest health center in their areas for vaccination.
Vice-mayor Gian Sotto, City Health Department Officer-In-Charge Esperanza Reyes, and city councilors also attended the ceremonial vaccination.
The DOH, in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF), launched the Chikiting Bakunation Days campaign last April 2022, targeting to vaccinate at least one million kids, especially those born during the Covid-19 pandemic, who missed out or have yet to receive any routine vaccine against various diseases.
