Kapatid pushes for release of over 700 political prisoners in PH
Kapatid, an organization that supports families and friends of political prisoners in the Philippines, listed down the human rights issues that the incoming Department of Justice chief leadership should prioritize.

Among these impunity issues include the release of more than 700 Filipino political prisoners in the country as well as the reinvestigation to end the filing of “made-up” charges that criminalize activists.
“Number one in the Kapatid priority list is to press the just release of 702 political prisoners and to protect their rights and welfare. We will continue to push the Department of Justice (DOJ) to reinvestigate and stop the filing of made-up cases and search warrants to criminalize and imprison activists,” said Kapatid in a press statement issued on Sunday, May 29.
The organization underscored that this particularly includes the non bailable charges of illegal possession of explosives among activists, on which Kapatid claimed were “planted.”
Meanwhile, Kapatid spokesperson Fides Lim, criticized incoming DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla’s words, citing Remulla’s statement on May 24, saying that he is only “unmasking” those people whom he has red-tagged.
“Presumption of guilt has no place in the DOJ, especially if you claim to be a “professional” and “constitutionalist,” Lim reiterated.
