Key leaders, including Sen. Franklin M. Drilon, Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. of Iloilo, and Mayor Jerry Treñas here, recently met Ayala executives, including President and Chief Executive Officer Fernando Zobel de Ayala.
During the meeting with Defensor also attended by other officials of the provincial government, the Ayala Group expressed scouting locations for new projects, including possible solar-power energy and expansion of its tourism portfolio.
Ayala redeveloped the once famous Sicogon Island in the northern Iloilo town of Carles. Sicogon preceded Boracay as a key popular beach destination in the country during the 1970s. Ayala’s redevelopment of Sicogon is a phase-by-phase process and it started with a hilltop resort and the revival of its airport.
In Iloilo City, the Ayala Group has the Atria Park District. It is a township with shopping centers, hotels, and condo buildings. Ayala’s energy subsidiary, AC Energy, operates a power barge here.
