Senator Christopher “Bong” Go said he is confident that naming President Duterte as the drug czar would be a major boost to the incoming administration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.
Go stressed that Duterte’s commitment to fight illegal drugs throughout his six year presidential term and even when he was still the mayor of Davao City has always been known.
The former special assistant to the president said it is very important that the fight against illegal drugs carries over to the next administration to sustain the gains made by the Duterte government to tackle the problem.
If the fight against illegal drugs continues, Go said other issues, such as criminality and corruption may also be addressed.
“Malaki po ang maia-ambag ni Pangulo, hindi ko lang po masasagot kung tatanggapin niya as drug czar or adviser o consultant (The President can contribute much, I’m not sure though if he will accept the proposal to make him the drug czar or adviser or consultant),” Go said.
“Kung ako po ang susunod na administrasyon, malaking bagay po ‘yun na kukunin niyo po ang opinyon o tulong ng magiging dating Presidente...sa kampanya laban sa droga (If I were the next administration, it would to your advantage if you ask the opinion or help of the former president in the campaign against illegal drugs),” he further said.
Earlier, Marcos Jr. said he is open to appointing Duterte as the government’s anti-drug czar. However, he has not yet offered the position to his predecessor.
Duterte, in a recent address, said he would continue to play a critical role in the war against illegal drugs even after his term ends.
