Imee: Marcos family eyeing Quirino Grandstand as venue for Bongbong’s inauguration

Senator Imee Marcos on Sunday disclosed that the family has yet to find an appropriate venue to hold the inauguration of her brother, President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.’s inauguration.

However, the senator said they are already considering holding the inauguration at the Quirino Grandstand the usual place their father usually holds his major public appearances during his term as president.

“Pinagpipilian pa lang, kaya nga lang hindi masyadong cooperative ang weather. So ang gusto kasi namin, ang number one criteria sana eh outdoor. Para hindi ma-COVID-19. (We are still choosing because the weather is uncooperative. So we want, our number one criteria, is hopefully outdoor. So we can prevent Covid-19). Because we don’t to expose people...to infection,” Marcos said in an interview on Radio DZBB.

But “sentimentally,” the senator said they want to hold it at the Luneta Grandstand and they are already planning on discussing the matter with Manila City Mayor Isko Moreno.

“Kaya ang nag da dalawang isip ang sister ko dahil nga umuulan (However, my sister is having doubts because it’s also the rainy season),” said the senator, who also disclosed that her sister Irene Marcos-Araneta is in-charge of the preparation for the inauguration.

Other possible venues for the June 30 inauguration being eyed by the Marcos family includes the Fort Santiago and the National Museum which used to be the Old Senate Building.

“But traditionally kasi, ang tatay ko lagi sa (my father usually holds it at) Quirino (grandstand) .. always Quirino until 1969...” she said.

“But we will find a place, as soon as possible, given the weather and the Covid-19 situation,” the lawmaker stressed.
