Barangay chairman, two sons arrested for possession of assorted firearms in Isabela


CAUAYAN CITY, Isabela – Police arrested a barangay chairman and his two sons on Saturday allegedly for possession of undocumented assorted firearms.

Armed with search warrant issued by Judge Reymundo Aumentado, Executive Judge of Cauayan City Regional Trial Court Branch 20, the authorities raided the house of Jessie Eder Sr. in Purok 4 Barangay Buyon in this city for allegedly keeping assorted firearms in violation of Republic Act 10591 and RA 9516.

Major Amy Dela Cruz, chief of Isabela Provincial Police Office PIO (Provincial Information Office) said the raiders found three caliber .45; four magazine for caliber 45; one improvised caliber .22; one 12 gauge shotgun; two improvised shotgun; one live ammunition for caliber .38; one caliber .38 revolver; 35 live ammunitions for M14 rifle and a grenade inside Edser’s house.

The inventory of confiscated pieces of evidence was done right at the house of the barangay chairman in the presence of his two sons.

According to the police, Edser failed to present any document that would make his possession of the assorted firearms legal.

The barangay chairman and his two sons were arrested by the joint forces of the Philippine National Police-Cauayan, Provincial Intelligence Unit of the Isabela Police Provincial Office (IPPO), Provincial Intelligence and Detective Management Unit, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, RSCG and Regional Intelligence Unit 2.

The barangay official and his two sons are now in the custody of the police along with the confiscated weapons for documentation and filing of the appropriate cases.

The authorities are also set to determine if those guns were used in shooting incidents in Cauayan City.
