Barangay chairman, 15 others caught in the act of conducting ‘tupada’ in Alaminos, Laguna


KAMPO HEN. PACIANO RIZAL, Sta. Cruz, Laguna -- A village chieftain and 15 others were arrested by operatives while in the act of conducting illegal cockfighting (tupada) on Thursday afternoon (May 26) in Alaminos, Laguna.

Laguna Police Provincial Office head Colonel Cecilio Ison Jr. identified the barangay captain who was allegedly behind the illegal cockfighting as Mars Libang, 63, of Brgy San Miguel, Alaminos town.

The other participants in the illegal gambling were identified as Edcel Sahagun, Nelson Depp Rama, Gregorio Malabuyoc, Jhon Mike Dominguez, Mike Joshua Toling, Oscar Manalo, Jhon Albert Hular, Steven Ram Cangas, John Borg Gaspay, Rico James Castillo, Reden Marcelino, Raymond Manalo, Joshua Enovidad, Andy Luna, and Prisco Manalo. All are residents of Alaminos, Laguna.

According to the report, the Provincial Special Operation Group of Laguna Police Provincial Office, together with Alaminos Municipal Police Station, conducted an anti-Illegal gambling operation led by Police Captain Robin Martin at about 3:00 p.m. in Barangay San Miguel, Alaminos.

The operatives caught the illegal gamblers in the act.

Ison added that the police operatives confiscated two fighting roosters, two gaff placed inside a self-sealing transparent plastic bag, and P3,300 bet money.

Prior to the operation, Laguna PPO received information from confidential informants about the rampant illegal cockfighting activity in the vicinity of Brgy. San Miguel in Alaminos town.

The arrested suspects are now in the custody of Alaminos police station and will be charged for violation of P.D. 1602 (Illegal Gambling).
