RSG PH, Omega Esports get early tests in MSC group stage

There will be a sibling rivalry as RSG Philippines makes an early matchup against its Singapore counterpart while Omega Esports faces a tall order when it meets Indonesian champion RRQ Hoshi following the results of the MLBB Southeast Asia Cup group stage draw on Thursday, May 26.

The MPL Philippines Season 9 champion RSG was drawn in Group B together with RSG SG and Cambodian team See You Soon while defending MSC titlist Omega Esports joined RRQ and Thai squad IDNS in Group C.

RSG will be bringing in its core players led by regular season MVP Dylan “Light” Catipon and Finals MVP Nathanael “Nathzz” Crisologo. Still in the crew are Jonard “Demonkite” Caranto, Arvie “Aqua” Calderon and Eman “Emann” Sangco and will be joined by Dexter “Exort” Martinez as the team’s sixth man.

Omega, on the other hand, will parade the same crew that won the title last year spearheaded by MSC 2019 MVP Duane “Kelra” Pillas.

Joshua “Ch4knu” Mangilog, Patrick “E2max” Caidic, Renz “Renzio” Cadua are back to defend their crown while Christian “Raizen” Sumagui takes the place of Kiel “Kielvj” Hernandez from the previous title-winning roster.

Veteran player Billy “Z4pnu” Alfonso will remain as the team’s sixth man.

Omega, then under the banner of Execration, ruled the tournament last year that featured an all-Filipino finals against Blacklist International. EXE won against their arch-rivals, 4-1, to claim its first title in the international stage.

In other groups, Malaysian champion Todak will take on Myanmar representatives Falcon and Indonesia’s runner-up Onic Esports in Group A.

In group B, Cambodian titlists KH Impunity battles against Orange Esports from Malaysia and EVOS SG from Singapore.

MSC 2022 will be held in an offline setting in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia for the first time since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic from June 11 to 19, with the lion's share of the $300,000 also at stake.
