DOH supports conduct of face-to-face classes

The Department of Health (DOH) expressed its support for the conduct of face-to-face classes amid the ongoing threat of Covid-19.

Attending classes physically has multiple benefits for students, the DOH said.

"Face-to-face attendance in school will allow children to develop their cognitive and social skills experientially," the DOH said in a public advisory as it encouraged parents and guardians to allow their children to participate in face-to-face classes.

"(It) promotes physical and mental health and well-being. This is based on the latest scientific evidence," it added.

The risk of getting infected with Covid-19 virus in schools is already reduced, the DOH said.

"The risk of getting Covid-19 at school can be reduced when teachers, learners, and other school personnel all get vaccinated and boosted once eligible," the DOH said.

DOH also highlighted that it is still necessary to follow the health protocols such as the wearing of face masks, observe physical distancing, frequent handwashing, and maintain good airflow.

"Let's give our children the education and learning development they need and deserve this coming school year by providing the best education and protection,” the DOH said.
