Ambassador Jose Manuel “Babe” Romualdez bared on Thursday, May 26, that he will continue to be the Philippines' envoy to the United States under the administration of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

Romualdez dismissed rumors that he will be the next Foreign Affairs secretary by revealing in a CNN Philippines interview that Marcos Jr. wants him to carry on with his diplomatic work in Washington.
"To be very honest about it, well, President-elect Marcos and I had a meeting and he told me that he was very pleased with how effective I have been in Washington DC and he told me that he would like me to continue what I have been doing in Washington with the relationship that we have been able to establish there," said Romualdez, who is also a cousin of Marcos Jr.
Romualdez, who was appointed by President Duterte as the country's ambassador to the US in November 2017, said he is ready to continue his present work in the US.
"I told him that I am ready to do whatever it is to help you because for me anything I can do to help him and to help him succeed is what's important to me than position," the ambassador said.
"I was very happy and pleased that if I'm going to be his ambassador after being the ambassador for President Duterte in Washington DC. That will be my privilege to be able to serve again now as his ambassador in Washington," he added.
US officials visit
Romualdez also bared that the US may send a presidential delegation to meet with Marcos Jr. or "if everything falls into place," US President Joe Biden might also come.
The ambassador said that the call between Biden and Marcos after the elections was an indication of how the US sees the Philippines and its new leadership.
"If everything falls into place, he may just come but on the other hand, they also want to send a presidential delegation headed by a high-profile US official. So that's an indication of how the United States sees the Philippines and the new president," Romualdez said.
The Filipino diplomat also said that President Biden was very grateful that he was invited by Marcos to attend his inauguration.
He also bared that next week, a high-level states official might arrive in the country to meet with Marcos and other current government officials.
"I think there is a plan that high-level state officials are coming here to hopefully meet with President-elect Marcos and also meet with the government officials here," Romualdez said.
