PH Red Cross extends registration for Million Volunteer Run 6

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) extended the registration for Million Volunteer Run 6 (MVR 6): Virtual Bike and Run Edition's culminating activity until June 12 to be held at the SM Mall of Asia (MOA) grounds.

The proceeds from the fundraising activity will benefit PRC's Covid-19 response.

The MVR 6's edition comprises of virtual duathlon for cyclists and runners who want to get into shape and have a healthy lifestyle. Unlike the pre-pandemic MVRs, this year's participants are allowed to run or bike at their chosen time during the race period.

They just have to track their record through their GPS-tracking application or watch and upload the result to their account dashboard.

PRC also noted in their Facebook post on Thursday, May 26, that those who have registered for the virtual activity may also participate in the on-site run at MOA grounds. The gate opens at 4 a.m.

The MVR is the PRC's way of building a solid network of one million volunteers who have the heart to support humanitarian responses through their time, skills, and resources.

As of this moment, PRC has already administered 1,181,252 doses of vaccines and boosters and has fully vaccinated 372,552 individuals. It has also tested 5,573,510 swab and saliva samples for Covid-19 using RT-PCR. Its isolation facilities have served 5,176 patients and have also deployed 125 medical tents in 64 hospitals, serving 65,856 patients.

Since the beginning of the pandemic last March 2020, PRC has acquired seven negative pressure ambulance units that helped transport patients with contagious diseases.

With their mantra, “Volunteers + Logistics + Information Technology = A Red Cross that is Always First, Always Ready, Always There," this activity is also one of the organization's strategies to prepare for the “buffet” of disasters that visit the Philippines every year.

PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Senator Richard J. Gordon conceptualized the first MVR in 2011 and has been held annually since then.
