President Duterte, on Wednesday night, May 25, attended the wake of movie icon Susan Roces who died at the age of 80 on May 20.
Duterte visited on the last night of the public viewing at the Heritage Park in Taguig City, where he was greeted by Senator Grace Poe, the daughter of the veteran actress.
The President was accompanied by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and Poe’s colleague, Duterte’s long-time aide Senator Christopher Lawrence ‘Bong’ Go.
Duterte’s attendance at the wake was aired via Facebook Live on Sen. Poe’s Facebook page. Photos of Duterte’s visit were likewise uploaded there.
In the broadcast, the President was seen chatting with Poe for a few minutes. Before leaving the venue, he joined Poe in front of her mother’s coffin to listen to the performance of singer Dulce.
Malacañang had described Roces’s death as “truly a big loss” for the Filipino people.
Hours before attending the wake of the Queen of Philippine Movies, President Duterte was busy in Malacañang welcoming the new ambassadors of Cambodia, Indonesia, Argentina, and Greece.
However, he was a no-show in the proclamation of his daughter, Vice President-elect Sara Duterte, at the Batasang Pambansa on Wednesday afternoon.
