Marikina City Police Station launches holistic rehab program for CICLs

The Marikina City Police Station (CPS) formally launched on Tuesday, May 24, the "Bagong Buhay, Bagong Pag-Asa Program" that aims to rehabilitate children in conflict with the law (CICL) in the city.

The program was established in partnership with the Marikina City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD), the non-profit organization La Liga Mariquina (LLM), and groups of CPS interfaith and life coaches.

Under the leadership of Col. Benliner Capili, chief of Marikina CPS, the program aims to promote the welfare and well-being of CICLs.

The inter-organizational structure – involving police intervention, local government care, and support from civic and religious groups – enables the program to use a holistic approach in responding to CICLs' needs more effectively.

The program will provide basic services to CICLs in terms of education, as well as health and nutrition.

CICLs will be taught by social workers on drug awareness and self-rehabilitation through frequent orientations and seminars.

The event was held at the Shoe Hall of the Marikina City Hall, Marikina City, beginning at around 8 a.m. It was attended by representatives of all the program's stakeholders.

CICLs are protected under Republic Act No. 9344 or the "Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006."

The law covers the prevention, rehabilitation, and integration of CICLs and children at risk, in accordance with children's rights.
