Eastern Visayas gears up for rollout of second Covid-19 booster shot


TACLOBAN CITY - Eastern Visayas is now ready for its roll-out of the second booster shots for the continuation of its vaccination drive against Covid-19 following the arrival of vaccines on Tuesday (May 24).

The Eastern Visayas, the third most populous in the whole Visayas group with more than four and half million inhabitants, got an allocation of 32,760 doses of Pfizer and 100,000 doses of Moderna vaccines from the Department of Health.

The DOH-Region 8 said the vaccines have been pre-allocated to the different provinces in the region.

The provinces of Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Western Samar have been given an allocation of 7,020 doses each of Pfizer and 15,000 doses each of Moderna, while the province of Leyte received 30,000 doses of Moderna vaccines.

Meanwhile, the remaining 11,700 doses of Pfizer and 25,000 doses of Moderna will be temporarily stored at the DOH EVCHD Cold Storage Facility.

As of May 23, a total of 2,700,879 individuals, or 68.7 percent of the region's target population have been fully vaccinated.

At least 286,901 individuals have already received their booster shots, while 69.2 percent of the target A2 population have already received their primary series.

The region has logged 62,105 Covid19 cases with 61,412 or 98.89 percent recoveries and 668 or 0.34 percent deaths.

Of these, only 25 COVID-19 cases remain active.
