India to remain 'strongly engaged' with PH under new admin, says envoy

Indian Ambassador to the Philippines Shambhu Kumaran has vowed to remain “strongly engaged” with the new administration in various areas of cooperation.

Kumaran expressed that his nation looks forward to working together with presumptive president Ferdinand Marcos Jr. when he paid a courtesy call to the latter on Monday, May 23.

“The Embassy will remain strongly engaged with the incoming administration to swiftly implement new initiatives to further strengthen and deepen bilateral ties,” the ambassador said.

Kumaran said that India will continue working with the Philippines on its bilateral ties focusing on the development partnership in the areas of agriculture, health and pharma, digital governance and finance, as well as cooperation on defense and security.

Kumaran also briefed Marcos on the recent progress in these bilateral ties.

During his call, he also handed the letter of felicitation from Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

The Embassy of India in Manila disclosed that in his letter, Modi congratulated Marcos on his victory in the recently-concluded elections and expressed that he looks forward to working together with the presumptive president “in continuing the momentum of bilateral ties towards a dynamic partnership.”

The Indian diplomat was among the four ambassadors who made a courtesy call to Marcos on Monday.
