Noah Thompson, a former construction worker from Kentucky, was named American Idol Season 20 winner during a three-hour finale broadcast around the world last Sunday (Monday, Manila time).

Thompson, 20, edged out HunterGirl and Lea Marlene who finished in third place.

On Instagram, Thompson still couldn't believe that he won the reality show. He thanked his family and friends for their support during his journey to the "AI" stage.

"Had a hard time making this post because I truly couldn’t find the words to say.. I was In complete shock in this moment and I still am and I probably always will be!

"Thank you all for giving me this opportunity, thank you for everyone who voted, thank you guys so much for everything!! I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you all so thank you guys so, so much.

"I’m looking forward to continuing this journey and seeing where this thing goes. Love all of you all," he said.

During auditions, Thompson admitted that he was never aware of the American Idol show until his co-worker entered him into the competition.

When he made it to the Top 5, Thompson was hit by Covid-19 and had to perform from his hotel room, where he was isolating.

Fans believe that Thompson slayed the finale when made a cover of the song "Stay" by Rihanna.

"One of the most inspiring stories ever. Noah Thompson literally told his friend not to send in a clip of him singing to @AmericanIdol because he didn’t think he had it in him… Months later he goes and wins the whole damn thing," one of his fans tweeted.

Another fan commented: "I just watched the finale and was stunned! I've rooted for you since your audition. Your song has been on repeat since it released. I am so incredibly happy for you. Congratulations!!!!"
