Valenzuela LGU breaks ground for VMC expansion

Valenzuela City 2nd District Rep. Eric Martinez, principal author of Republic Act 11327 which created the Valenzuela Medical Center (VMC), led the groundbreaking rites for its four-story extension building on Friday, May 20.

The P208-million extension project aims to enhance the delivery of quality health services to local residents and neighboring communities.

Present at the groundbreaking rites were Senators Christopher “Bong” Go and Sherwin Gatchalian, mayor-elect Rep. Wes Gatchalian, and incumbent Mayor Rex Gatchalian.

The project will expand VMC’s operational capacity from 200 to 500 beds. It will have a roof deck, central sewerage treatment plant, and central powerhouse.

The extension building will also house VMC’s expanded Radiology Department, Operating Room Complex and Surgical Intensive Care, Hemodialysis, Chemotherapy, and Ambulatory Surgical Units.

As a Department of Health-retained hospital, VMC’s goal is to become the "People's Choice by 2028" through its mission of providing institutionalized patient-centered and pandemic-resilient health care.

Currently, VMC specializes in neonatal, geriatrics, dermatology, ophthalmology, trauma, burn management, cancer care, stroke care, emerging and re-emerging infectious disease, and hemodialysis.

In 2018, the Duterte administration granted VMC, through a usufruct agreement, an additional 6,600 square meters of land for its expansion.

Since then, VMC has built an Infectious Disease Clinic and Warehouse building. Currently, it has a 134-bed operating capacity and two emergency rooms – one for infectious and another for non-infectious diseases.

There is also a Malasakit Center, a pet project of Senator Go.

SCCI, the firm that won the competitive bidding for the VMC extension project, is also the company currently building the Makati Life Medical Center, a Public-Private Partnership hospital being jointly developed by Life Nurture Inc (LNI) and the City Government of Makati.
