Health officer warns residents amid alarming rise in dengue cases in Cagayan

CAGAYAN -- The provincial health office here has warned residents against the alarming rise of dengue cases, especially this rainy season.

Dr. Carlos Cortina III, Provincial Health Officer, encouraged residents to clean up their area, especially those with stagnant water that serves as breeding areas for mosquito larvae.

Dr. Carlos cited the latest data in which 738 cases of dengue and four deaths were recorded in Lasam, Baggao, Gattaran, and the latest death case is in the town of Solana.

"The number of cases here in Cagayan is similar to the outbreak in Cebu but they have 14 deaths so I am worried," said Dr. Carlos.

The health officer also took time to remind everyone to do the so-called four-strategy or 4S. These include ‘search and destroy’ or knock down drains, self-protection or apply mosquito lotion; ‘seek early treatment’ or to immediately see a doctor when there are symptoms.

The Cagayan Provincial Information Office said that all municipal officers in Cagayan are already focused on implementing ‘4S’ in their constituencies.
