KAMPO HEN. PACIANO RIzal, Sta. Cruz, Laguna – A Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) was created here to spearhead the investigation that would lead to resolution of the case of a missing former overseas Filipino worker in Los Baños, Laguna.
Police Regional Office Region 4A director Brigadier General Antonio Yarra ordered the creation of the special task force that will look into the case of 40-year-old Reynalyn Umali, a resident of Brgy. Baybayin, Los Baños, Laguna.
Umali was reportedly last seen on February 9, 2022 and was reported missing on February 13.
A report by the Infanta Municipal station to the Quezon Police Provincial Office had it that human skeletal remains of a burnt corpse were found in Brgy. Magsaysay, Infanta, Quezon on February 15. It wasn’t sure whether the remains were that of Reynalyn Umali's.
The Regional Forensic Unit 4-A conducted DNA examination of the skeletal remains.
P/Colonel Cecilio R. Ison Jr., Laguna Police director, presided over the conference of SITG Umali, attended by different members from Philippine National Police units and directed the task group to exert all effort for the immediate resolution of the case.
The investigation will initially have focused on the whereabouts leading to the recovery of the missing person, while waiting for the result of forensic unit for the identity of the found skeletal remains.
“The task group is currently focusing on gathering information to locate missing person Reynalyn Umali, habang inaantay natin ang result ng forensic unit kung talaga ang nakitang bangkay sa Infanta Quezon ay ang hinahanap natin,” said Ison.
“Patuloy ang ugnayan at pagtutulungan ng iba’t-ibang unit ng PNP upang mahanap, at mahuli ang gumawa ng karumaldumal na krimen na ito. Hihingin din po naming ang kooperasyon ng kanyang pamilya. Kami din ay nanawagan sa sino pang makapagbibigay ng impormasyon upang agad po natin ma solve ang kasong eto at mabigyan ng hustisya ang biktima,” added Ison.
