PRRD bids farewell as president after casting his vote during national election

DAVAO CITY -- As his presidency is soon to end, President Duterte bade farewell to a huge crowd at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School (DRANHS) in Barangay Matina on Monday (May 9) afternoon.

“Ako mutalikoray na sa akong pagka-presidente puhon. Gusto lang ko na makadungog mo sa akong kinasingkasing na pagpasalamat ninyong mga taga-Dabaw (I will be leaving my position soon. I want you to know that I am sincerely grateful to you Davaoeños),” said Duterte.

Duterte arrived at DRANHS at around 4:30 p.m. to vote for the 2022 presidential election. He earlier expressed that he has no presidential bet this year following his commitment to ensuring clean and honest polls.

As the crowd was repeatedly shouting ‘Duterte! Duterte!’, the out-going President stopped them, saying there was no need to cheer for him since he was not the one seeking for the highest post in the election.

The President told the crowd it was his children who were vying for respective positions in the government. He had told them that it’s to the people of Davao and the Philippines to choose whether his children did well in their respective roles.

“Nahibaw ko na humana mo ug boto. Tanaw ninyo na maayo ang ilang pagkadala sa siyudad, ako mangayo sa inyong tabang (I know you have already voted. If you think my children did well in their jobs... I can only ask for your help),” added Duterte.

Duterte also thanked the public for their generous support of his children, vice presidential aspirant Inday Sara Duterte–Carpio, mayoral candidate Sebastian Duterte, and Rep. Paolo Duterte, who was seeking re-election in Davao City’s First Congressional District.

The outgoing president said that he would soon return to the city for good. Though he will no longer be part of the government, Duterte assured the people of Davao that he would remain a public servant while watching the development of the city.
