Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte has ordered the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to investigate the riot between rival gangs at the Quezon City Jail that left one inmate dead and several others wounded on Friday afternoon, May 13.

“Iniutos na natin ang malalimang imbestigasyon sa nangyaring riot sa Quezon City Jail para malaman ang puno’t dulo nito (We have ordered an in -depth investigation into the riot at the Quezon City Jail to find out its cause),” Belmonte said.

“Kailangang maparusahan ang mga nagpabaya sa kanilang tungkulin, kung mayroon man, upang hindi na maulit pa ang ganitong klaseng insidente sa ating mga pasilidad (Those who had neglected their duty must be punished so that this kind of incident would not happen again in our facilities),” she added.

PLt. Col. Alex DJ Alberto said that police from QCPD Station 10 immediately responded after receiving a report regarding the riot in the adjacent jail facility.

The BJMP brought at least 10 injured inmates to the East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC).

Authorities pacified the riot at around 4:30 p.m.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
