And is set to feature the romance between Astrid Young and Charlie Wu
A love story is being brewed by Warner Bros. as the mega movie studio is set to release a spin-off of the 2018 romantic drama film “Crazy Rich Asians.” This time, according to reports, it will spotlight the relationship between characters Astrid Young Teo and Charlie Wu, portrayed by Gemma Chan and Harry Shum Jr., respectively, in the movie.
News about its coming is reported by Deadline, which notes that the “project is in early development.” What’s confirmed is that the producer of the Emmy-nominated series “Barry,” Jason Kim, is onboard to write the script.
In the movie, Astrid and Charlie's paths crossed again toward the end of the film after the fashionista and philanthropist broke up with her husband Michael Teo (Pierre Png) due to his infidelity. In “China Rich Girlfriend” novel, author Kevin Kwan’s followup to “Crazy Rich Asians” book, details Astrid and Charlie’s past relationship, and will likely be the source material for the spin-off.
Meanwhile, the sequel movie, which will also be based on “China Rich Girlfriend,” is still in the works with Amy Wang as its screenwriter.
