NYC chair criticizes UP Office of the Student Regent's call to boycott classes

National Youth Commission (NYC) Chairman Ronald Cardema on Wednesday, May 11, denounced the petition of the University of the Philippines Office of the Student Regent (UP OSR) to boycott classes under the leadership of presidential frontrunner Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
"Sasabihin niyo paglingkuran ang sambayanan, tapos yung iniluklok ng sambayanang Pilipino hindi pwede sa inyo (You are claiming to serve the nation but the one appointed by people is not okay with you)," Cardema pointed out.
In a statement posted on NYC's Facebook page, Cardema said that UP students should leave the university to give other poor Filipino students a chance to use government-funded scholarships if they plan on wasting them under the incoming administration.
"Karamihan sa mga taga UP ay maaayos na tao, kayong mga ibang student leader dyan na tinataguyod ang teroristang CPP-NPA ang dapat talaga tanggalan ng government scholarships (Most of the people in UP are good, those other student leaders who establish the CPP-NPA terrorist should be the ones to have their scholarship removed)," he added.
Cardema, who is also the founding chairman of the Duterte Youth Movement & Kabataan for Bongbong (KB) Movement in 2016, pointed out that there are millions of students worthy of UP scholarship.
UP OSR’s #SuspendClassesNowUP petition, which has so far 35,480 signatories, aims for UP students to focus on vigilance and defend the country's democracy during this election period. (Luisa Cabato)
