Rep. Wes Gatchalian wins as Valenzuela City mayor


Valenzuela City first District Rep. and Deputy Speaker Weslie “Wes” Gatchalian was proclaimed as the new mayor of Valenzuela City on Tuesday morning, May 10, becoming the third Gatchalian to win the city's top post.

Gatchalian, who ran under Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and Team Tuloy ang Progreso, Valenzuela! garnered 275,650 votes while his rival, Bombit Bernardo, got 75,026 votes.

His win was proclaimed by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) City Board of Canvassers chairman Attorney Edison Teodoro.

The deputy speaker will be replacing his brother, incumbent Mayor Rex Gatchalian, who is the lone congressional candidate for the city’s first district.

Incumbent Vice-Mayor Lorie Natividad-Borja, Gatchalian's running-mate, was also re-elected for the same position.

Elected as city councilors for its first district are Marlon Alejandrino, Ramon Encarnacion, Ricar Enriquez, Cris Feliciano, Ghogo Lee, and Bimbo Dela Cruz.

For District 2, the winners are Eric Martinez for congressman; Gerald Galang; Nina Lopez; Sel Sabino-Sy; Louie Nolasco; Mickey Pineda; and Chiqui Carreon for councilors.
