Mapua, San Beda student councils urge fans to wear black in NCAA semis

The student councils of Mapua University and San Beda University have urged their basketball fans to wear black shirts in the NCAA Season 97 semifinals on Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The call came as a sign of protest in light of the partial and unofficial results of the 2022 presidential and vice presidential elections where the UniTeam tandem of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Sara Duterte take a huge lead.

“Never Again. In light of the recent news regarding the partial and unofficial results, we urge our live student audiences to wear black during tomorrow's NCAA game,” said in a joint announcement of the two student councils which was also posted in their Facebook pages on Tuesday, a day after the elections.

“We are more than just students of our institutions. We are the owners of our future. Let's take this stand,” it added.

Marcos Jr. currently leads the tally with over 30 million votes, way ahead of closest rival Leni Robredo who has over 14 million votes as of Tuesday afternoon. Duterte on the other hand, has over 31 million votes to top the vice presidential race with Kiko Pangilinan at far second with just over nine million votes.

It can be remembered that the student organizations of San Beda and Letran also urged the fans to wear pink in the elimination game between the Red Lions and the Knights as a form of support for Robredo’s bid for presidency.

Letran currently awaits the winner of the clash in the finals after making quick work of Perpetual Help in the other semifinal pairing.
