Lady booters stamp class on Cambodians

The national women’s football team moved closer towards a semifinals berth after a 5-0 win over Cambodia Monday, May 9 in the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Quang Ninh, Vietnam.

Isabella Flanigan scored in the first half before the floodgates opened after the restart with goals from Sarina Bolden, Eva Madarang, Quinley Quezada and Anicka Castaneda to seal the win for the Filipinas.

With the three full three points, the lady booters need to secure at least a draw against host Vietnam in their final Group A match on Wednesday to qualify for the semis.

Flanigan put the Philippines up in the 27th minute when she fired a strike that first hit the far post before going past the goal line.

Bolden, donning the national team shirt for the first time since the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, made it 2-0 in the 64th with a header off a cross courtesy of Madarang from the left flank.

Madarang also scored for the Filipinas in the 68th, slipping the third goal after Cambodia keeper Chea Sompors couldn’t secure the ball.

A corner by Tahnai Annis set up Quezada’s goal in the 75th before Castaneda sealed the final count four minutes later with a tap-in off an open net.
