He made his concession in an interview with ABS-CBN on May 10, one day after the 2022 national elections.

"May ganun din akong pagtanggap na magkakahirapan pero sa buong eleksyon na ito ay magkaroon pa ng malaliman at mahabang kampanya para sa mga katulad ko na ipaliwanag sa mamamayan na hindi pwede talaga maasahan ang mga trapo, mga political dynasties, ang mga bilyonaryong pulitiko (I accepted the difficulties of this election but I hope that through campaigns such as ours, the masses will understand that they cannot count on corrupt politicians, on political dynasties, and on billionaire politicians)," he said in the interview .

The Partido Lakas ng Masa (PLM) candidate explained that he would no longer contest the votes, citing the large gap that top vote-getter, former Senator Bongbong Marcos has over the pack.

He did, however, urge the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to probe the irregularities which took place during the May 9 elections.

A day earlier, he similarly pushed the Comelec to explain several alleged election day anomalies.

De Guzman and his fellow PLM candidates are known for adopting a "people's campaign" wherein they pushed for the rights of workers and laborers, as well as their progressive platforms and policies.
