Cynthia Villar may be the next Senate President, Sen. Bato says

Even though the results of the May 2022 senatorial elections have yet to be final, senators are now keen on looking for the next possible Senate President in the upcoming 19th Congress.

Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa said there is a possibility Senator Cynthia Villar would be the next Senate leader.

Senator Cynthia Villar

Dela Rosa said he believes there would be some senators who would be interested to vie for the top Senate post.

But Villar is the most senior and possible contender for the Senate presidency.

“Sen. Villar can be the next Senate President. She is the most senior and number one in terms of showing good leadership,” Dela Rosa said in an interview on Net 25.

“If you ask me, I prefer Sen. Villar,” the senator added.

A family affair

The composition of the next Senate in the 19th Congress is expected to see family members from powerful political families.

Aside from Cynthia, her son Mark Villar, former Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) would also be a new member of the Senate. Partial and unofficial counts of the May polls show him securing the sixth place.

Sen. Pia Cayetano will also be joined by former House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, who is now on the 7th place in the partial count.

Also, based on the unofficial count, former senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito and his half-brother, Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada, also a former senator, have entered the so-called “Magic 12.”
