Poll chief says May 9 polls relatively peaceful


Commission on Elections (Chairman) Saidamen Pangarungan said the May 9 National and Local polls was relatively peaceful.

"We consider this elections as relatively peaceful compared to the elections in 2019," he said in a press briefing on Monday.

"As confirmed by our security partners in the past polls the number of violent incidents was 60. Now, there are 15 incidents reported," added Pangarungan.

According to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the recorded 15 incidents comprised of two explosions, two shootings, one grenade-throwing, among others.

“All of these 15 incidents, we were able to respond although sadly there was one death. Most important is we were able to respond immediately,” AFP spokesman Ramon Zagala said.
