Now comes the tension-filled wait for the results of the national and local elections.

Instances when voting had to be halted due to defective vote-counting machines (VCMs) and secure digital (SD) cards were mostly the reasons cited for the disruption in the May 9 polls. But these were only isolated, and were generally addressed promptly by election officers.

The worst incidence of violence was reported in Buluan, Maguindanao where three barangay tanod were gunned down by unidentified assailants near a poll center.

Despite this, the National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) said that it found the Monday political exercise as “smooth and peaceful”.
